A watch from Patek Phillipe, Frederique Constant & Co. is more than just a timepiece – it is a work of art, an expression of your personality and often an heirloom in the making. To keep your treasures in pristine condition for years to come and preserve their fascinating precision, they need the right care and attention.
The right storage
Protecting your watch starts with storing it. Store your watch in a high-quality case or a special watch box. Automatic calibres appreciate permanent rotation in a watch winder, and particularly valuable pieces should of course be stored in a safe. If it is a quartz watch, we also advise you to pull out the crown during longer periods of storage, to reduce power consumption.
Regular cleaning
Regular cleaning helps to ensure that your watch always remains immaculate. A soft cloth is suitable for removing fingerprints. Waterproof watches can be carefully cleaned with a damp cloth. However, do not use conventional cleaning agents as these can attack the seals. If the glass of your watch fogs up on the inside during cleaning, you should consult a specialist immediately, as this may be an indication of a leak.
Maintenance of the mechanics
Mechanical watches with complications should be checked regularly – every two years – by a specialist and completely overhauled every five years. This not only ensures precision but also makes a decisive contribution to maintaining the value of your timepiece.
The bracelet
The strap is also an essential part of the design of a luxury watch. Leather straps in particular require care: protect them from moisture and change the strap regularly to preserve the closed look of your watch. Metal bracelets, on the other hand, are easier to care for and can be carefully polished with a soft cloth from time to time. Repairs or adjustments should always be carried out by an authorised specialist retailer to avoid damage.
Testing the watertightness
Even with waterproof models, the effectiveness of the seals deteriorates over time. It is therefore recommended that you also have the water resistance checked every one to two years – especially if you wear your watch frequently. Remember this especially before a trip to the beach; even a normal snorkelling depth can cause considerable damage to the calibre if the seals are porous!
A luxury watch is a companion for life. Its care and maintenance not only emphasise its high value, but also ensure that you and your descendants can enjoy your timepiece for a long time to come. If you have any questions about a particular model or require care instructions, please contact the expert team at Juwelier Oberleitner. Of course, we also offer a comprehensive overhaul of your watch purchased from us.
