HAUT ARTISANAT – RARE CRAFTSMANSHIP

Unfortunately, we will have to wait a little longer before we can get our hands on the new models from the last family-owned watch manufacturer in Geneva, which will be presented at the Geneva trade fair. But with Patek Philippe, we don’t always have to await something new. Because in the meantime, a new edition of the Rare Handcrafts has been announced.

The rare handicrafts on display at the Salon du Rhone, for which the manufactory is perhaps the only company still worthy of the pre-industrial term, are always worth a visit. From April 6 to 23, it’s that time again! Almost sixty Rare Handcrafts creations will be on display this time. The collection impressively demonstrates the wide variety of handicraft skills and the imaginative inspiration of the manufactory. Visitors will even have the opportunity to look over the shoulders of the artisans as they practise their traditional skills.

Patek Philippe has always been committed to preserving the craftsmanship that has adorned timepieces for almost five hundred years. Every year, the manufacture unveils a new collection of unique pieces and limited editions. This also applies to the 2022 collection, which comprises 59 exhibits, including 15 dome pendulettes, 9 mini dome pendulettes, 10 pocket watches and 25 wristwatches. Each exhibit is decorated with different craft techniques. These include techniques such as ‘Grand Feu Cloisonné enamel’, the Geneva specialty of miniature painting on enamel, engraving and guilloché by hand, pailloné enamel and the unique watchmaking arts of micro-wood marquetry and Longwy enamel on faience.

As in previous years, the 2022 Rare Handcrafts collection will present an abundance of creativity from a wide variety of sources of inspiration. Among the numerous themes are several objects with a connection to Geneva, the cradle of Patek Philippe. These include the Dom-Pendulette 20118M ‘Bol d’Or’ in cloisonné and pailloné enamel as a tribute to the seven victories won by Philippe Stern, Honorary President of the Manufacture, in this famous Lake Geneva regatta. The 995/130G-001 pocket watch features the typical Lake Geneva swan as a micro wooden marqueterie on the case back. Other themes present the magic of the tropical jungle and the first airplane crossings of the English Channel, the Atlantic and the Pacific.

The exhibition ‘Haut artisanat 2022’ (Rare Handcrafts 2022) at 41 Rue du Rhône will be open to the public every day (except Sundays) from April 6 to 23, 2022 from 11 am to 6 pm. And as a further novelty, Rare Handcrafts is also moving on to Paris: from May 14 to 22, 2022, the 59 treasures will be on display in a specially prepared gallery at 85 Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré.

From March 28, interested parties can register for the Geneva exhibition at: patek.com
