THE ART OF MAKING A CLASSIC PIECE OF JEWELLERY

The VICTOR MAYER manufactory is internationally renowned for the exceptional expertise of its craftsmen. Extremely rare techniques such as enameling, guilloché and engraving characterize the work that is so valued by connoisseurs and collectors. In the following video, the manufactory gives an insight into the production of a signet ring in 18 carat yellow gold with a personal engraving – in this case that of a griffin.

It takes many steps to create a signet ring from solid 18-karat yellow gold in Victor Mayer’s workshops. See the dedication with which our goldsmith works on the signet ring, adjusts it, and prepares its surface for engraving. Look over the engraver’s shoulder as she first transfers a griffin from the template onto the signet ring. In many individual steps, she first engraves the contours of the heraldic animal. Then she engraves in depth to create a three-dimensional seal impression. The work is repeatedly checked with a test impression. Finally, an impression is made in sealing wax as proof of quality. The signet ring is given a final polish and can then be placed on the customer’s ring finger. A true masterpiece and a real rarity!
