23. March 2022
The Swiss watch manufacturer Frederique Constant was founded in 1988 by the independent entrepreneur couple Aletta and Peter Stas in order to offer high-quality Swiss watches at moderate prices and thus democratize the luxury of ‘Swiss Made’ timepieces. This honorable claim was by no means the only one, otherwise the brand could have been called Tudor. In 2015, Frederique Constant launched its Horological Smartwatch, the first networked ‘Swiss Made’ watch with a traditional look. The ‘Classic Hybrid Manufacture’ that followed in 2018 even combined a mechanical manufacture caliber with smart functions. 2020 saw the launch of the Vitality smartwatch line, which was equipped with a latest-generation heart rate sensor.
There are certainly watch manufacturers with a longer tradition, but what Frederique Constant has designed for our wrists within just a few decades is remarkable! Especially the ‘Highlife’ collection, which first appeared in 1999, has written watch history. It is now back in the limelight, more modern than ever! After several urban, sporty, diamond-studded or daring variations, Frederique Constant is starting 2022 with two new proposals that focus on glamorous chic. Et voilà: the noblest of the Highlife Ladies Automatic is here!
Diamonds last forever, but so does gold! Once overshadowed by its red or pink variations, yellow gold is now on the rise again. It is praised for its authenticity, natural shine and purity and is set to reassert itself as a timeless classic. Yellow gold adds warmth and shine to the neck, ear, finger and even the wrist.
The new Highlife Ladies Automatic was created by Frederique Constant using a combination of these two evergreens, yellow gold and diamonds. The 34 mm case is completely coated in yellow gold, as are the bracelet, the indices and the hands. The latter circle above eight diamond indices and are complemented by a date window at 3 o’clock, the border of which is also gold-plated in yellow gold.
To further enhance the rich palette of reflections offered by yellow gold, Frederique Constant opted for a wide range of finishes, alternating matt and polished surfaces. This also applies to the bezel, which is completely mirror-polished to emphasize the harmony of the perfect circle. This trait is also reflected in the heart of the dial – on the one hand with the engraved globe, the aesthetic signature of the Highlife collection, and on the other with the setting ring of each individual diamond, whose brilliance is revealed in infinite purity.
The delicately curved case is satin-finished and matches every line of the Highlife design, right up to the edge of the case wall, from where a fully gold-plated bracelet in yellow gold unfolds. Two satin-finished links alternate with a polished central link – a remarkable finesse that demonstrates the Manufacture Frederique Constant’s love of Geneva craftsmanship, of which it is a worthy representative. This chic bracelet is complemented by a second one in white rubber and a gold-plated buckle in yellow gold. You can transform your watch from red-carpet look to urban and vice versa in no time at all – no tools required!
At the same time, the Highlife Ladies Automatic gets a second variation. Gold or silver, why choose? The model offers both, based on a simple principle: all surfaces that were previously satin-finished gold-plated are now made of stainless steel. The remaining part remains in highly polished yellow gold plating. The result is a beautiful interplay of colors, metals, surfaces and reflections. This model does not rely on gentle harmony, but dares to create a strong contrast, a complementarity. The raw, modern stainless steel, reminiscent of the architecture of large metropolises, plays with the highly polished, shimmering, radiant gold, which mirrors even the smallest reflection. A subtle, playful and poetic interplay of contrasts for women with a strong character who don’t have to choose between tradition and modernity, between a little black dress and joggers.
Like its fully yellow gold-plated counterpart, this new model is also available with a rubber strap. This can either enhance the modern, urban spirit of the stainless steel or create a balance with the radiant yellow gold. For these two prestige models, Frederique Constant chose an automatic caliber with a 38-hour power reserve that is visible through an open back. We are thrilled!
