The Classics Art Déco line from Frederique Constant, which was launched in 2005, will undergo harmonious growth in 2022. The case will be refined to achieve new, slimmer and more sophisticated proportions. There are three new models that combine natural mother-of-pearl with diamonds. The Classics Art Déco Carrée is a classic guilloché watch decorated with a cabochon and designed for everyday wear.
It is a model that is as simple as it is durable. The Classics Art Déco was introduced in 2005 and has been part of Frederique Constant’s collections ever since. Contrary to fashion trends, it showed the independent character of the family business: although the trend was towards oversized and unisex watches, Frederique Constant was committed to timeless classicism. A soft and elegant creation for women, which immediately created a buzz with its refined look, gradually evolved. The first model, a reinterpretation from 2013, still had a tonneau shape. Seven years later, it was given a new design in which a perfect circle complements the oval silhouette.
Play of shapes
Understanding this constant journey to modern-day perfection makes it possible to appreciate the stylistic leap that Classics Art Déco is currently making by adopting its first square shape. But despite the name ‘Classics Art Déco Carrée’, the cheeky creation plays with proportions. Because the shape is not a square per se: in order for the watch to flatter the curves of the wrist, the mischievous 15-year-old stands on tiptoe to become taller and extends its height to 28 mm with a width of 20.7 mm. Perfect proportions and curvatures emphasised by fine grooves.
A self-confident style
The dial, inlaid with natural mother-of-pearl, creates the new profile with a guilloché rectangle, above which two Breguet-style hands circle. The baton minute track marks the transition between mother-of-pearl and guilloché. Each of the three versions has twelve indices with Roman numerals, which are driven by a quartz movement. The crown is set with a blue cabochon at three o’clock, reminiscent of the lustre of a sapphire. All these features are an elegant homage to the sophisticated style of the 1920s, when the Art Deco movement reached its peak with its linear and geometric design.
