For many generations, pocket watches were regarded as the absolute supreme discipline in which watchmakers proved their mastery. Even if three-piece suits with vests and watch cases with gold chains are no longer entirely fashionable, the classic onions with spring covers still delight connoisseurs and lovers of rare timepieces to this day. At the time of the rubber boom in South America, ‘Patek’ was even used synonymously for the pocket watch. They were the best and most famous in the world! As the guardian of this high art of watchmaking, Patek Philippe continues to produce pocket watches in small quantities, whose aesthetic sophistication has lost none of its fascination to this day.
The Prince of Lake Geneva. A swan, symbol of light, grace, love and loyalty and emblematic of Lake Geneva, glides across the back of this unique piece of white gold jewelry, which demonstrates the highly developed technique of micro-wood inlay work. To captivate all the elegance of the feathers and the long, curved neck, as well as the subtle play of reflections in the water, the inlay cutter has cut and assembled 223 pieces of veneer and 30 tiny inlays made of 23 types of wood in a wide variety of colors, textures and grains. The dial is enameled in black and equipped with Breguet numerals in white gold and leaf-shaped hands for the hour, minute and second, which are engraved by hand. A spessartine cabochon (0.44 ct) adorns the crown.
This pocket watch is accompanied by a handcrafted white gold stand that rests on a base set with a spessartine cabochon (0.46 ct) on an oval base made of shiny silver obsidian. It harbors the caliber 17”’ LEP PS caliber with manual winding and small seconds.
