The 2000s are back – not only on the catwalks and in the playlists, but also in the world of haute horlogerie. Models from the millennium are experiencing a stylish revival, and one of the most exciting reinterpretations comes from Munich: The Erwin Sattler manufactory presents a remake of its legendary precision pendulum clock ‘1799’ – The ‘Metallica 1799’ is more modern, more technical and more limited.
In 2000, the Munich watch manufacturer Erwin Sattler presented a 5/6 precision pendulum clock called ‘1799’ with a unique case and corresponding appearance. 25 years later, the innovative design of that time has been reinterpreted. In a strictly limited edition, the design is enhanced with features that represent the state of today’s technology. The result is a completely new model that will make the hearts of watch lovers beat faster.
Behind the modern design of the dial with openwork and hand-finished bridge is an incredibly quietly running monthly precision movement with jewel and ball bearings and agate pallets. The pendulum is equipped with sophisticated barometric compensation, which makes the new edition of the 1799 less ‘weather-sensitive’.
The interplay of wood and stainless steel, combined with domed crystal glass, lends the case a special elegance. Another highlight is the roof of the clock, which has been fitted with a window that allows the use of external lighting and also sets the clock wonderfully in scene at night.
Fine curves instead of sharp edges also make the new ‘Metallica 1799’ more suitable for the interior of modern living concepts. The new design demonstrates that even in traditional haute horlogerie, it is worth looking to the future.
