Art Deco with a modern movement

Frederique Constant evokes the spirit of Art Deco with three new ›Classic Carrée‹ models.

After round cases had long been the norm, it was exactly a century ago that Haute Horlogerie first invented cases that combined a dial with a square and rectangular case shape. Even after so long, this elegant design has lost none of its appeal. That is why Frederique Constant has now revived it in the design of three new models of the ‘Classic Carrée’ with small seconds. With their straight, almost taut lines and finely crafted geometric shapes, the new models evoke the spirit of Art Deco in the 1920s and 1930s.

With three versions of the Classics Carrée Small Seconds, you are sure to find the right model for every taste and occasion. For an elegant gala dinner, for example, the steel version would be an eye-catching companion: richly set with 158 diamonds (totaling 1.185 ct) and equipped with an opaline dial and a strap made of flattering calfskin.

The second version is a little more urban and purist: Here, both the case and bracelet are made of 100% steel. With its seven links, the bracelet can nestle perfectly around the wearer’s wrist.

The third version combines a steel case and calfskin strap as a kind of quintessence: a simple watch for all ages and every occasion at a comparatively affordable price.

All three models have a quartz movement with a service life of two years. This guarantees perfect precision without having to worry about setting the watch. The models also have the rectangular case in common, which encloses an equally rectangular silver dial. This has two central hands that circle over large Roman numerals and an off-center second hand above a so-called sector dial or railroad minute track. Quite typical of Art Deco. Another refined quote is the onion crown, a nod to the old pocket watches that were gradually replaced by the more practical wristwatches a century ago.
