The legendary sports watch from Patek Philippe, designed by the famous watch designer Gérald Genta, caused a sensation when it was released in 1976 with its combination of luxury and stainless steel. Its design was inspired by the shape of portholes on ships.
Patek Philippe launches a new Nautilus three-hand watch. The successor to the famous reference 5711 in steel is called Ref. 5811/1G-001 and has a white gold case and bracelet. The new model differs from the Ref. 5711 not only in terms of the material used. With a diameter of 41 millimetres, it is one millimetre larger and at the same time 0.1 millimetres thinner with a height of 8.2 millimetres. What remains is the manufacture calibre 26-330 S C with automatic winding and stop seconds, which can be admired through the glass back.
Similar to the first Nautilus Ref. 3700 from 1976, the 5811 again has a monocoque case that promises a water resistance of up to 120 metres. Whether the Ref. 5811 will be as sought-after and difficult to obtain as the 5711 remains to be seen. The official price is 68,622 euros. With its rounded octagonal bezel, the sophisticated porthole-inspired case structure and the horizontal relief decoration on the dial, Nautilus has been the perfect embodiment of an elegant sports watch since 1976. Forty years later, the range includes exquisite men’s and women’s models in stainless steel, rose gold, white gold or two-colour designs, accompanied by an incomparably active lifestyle.
