With reference 5308G-001, Patek Philippe presents a masterpiece that sets new standards even in the world of grand complications. The watch combines a minute repeater, a split-seconds chronograph and a perpetual calendar with instantaneous date change in an exceptionally harmonious white gold case.
The watch impresses at first glance with its clear elegance. The 42-millimetre white gold case features finely polished surfaces and skeletonised lugs, which lend the solid construction an unexpected lightness. The delicately shimmering ice-blue dial with a sunburst finish gives the watch a modern touch, while applied white gold indices and faceted Dauphine hands ensure precise readability. The perpetual calendar displays are arranged in a gentle arc between ten and two o’clock, their design emphasised by subtle metallised borders. A shiny, dark blue alligator leather strap with a new triple folding clasp in white gold completes the elegant look.
Inside, the newly developed calibre R CHR 27 PS QI, an automatic movement that is one of the most complex designs in the history of the manufacture, is at work. It combines the acoustic art of the minute repeater with the precision of a flyback and split-seconds chronograph and the sophistication of an instantaneous jumping perpetual calendar. Ensuring that all displays change at exactly the same time requires perfectly coordinated mechanics – the result of years of research and development.
Patek Philippe has developed two new patented systems for operating the chronograph, ensuring smooth movements, minimal friction and maximum energy efficiency. The movement itself is finely decorated, visible through the optional sapphire crystal case back, and can alternatively be worn with a solid white gold cover.
With this watch, Patek Philippe demonstrates that traditional watchmaking and technical innovation are not mutually exclusive, but rather inspire each other.
