Columna Temporis by Erwin Sattler

For watch enthusiasts with a classical education, the name alone reveals just how fascinating and eye-catching this new product from Erwin Sattler must be: the Column of Time is both a spacious work of art and a technical marvel. Like a glass sculpture, this large clock sits enthroned on its pedestal, reflecting the craftsmanship that created it.

Made from stainless steel, African granite and hand-blown glass, the Columna Temporis combines delicate tradition with pure transparency. Its design allows the eye to gaze unhindered into the mechanics: the silver-plated dial with blued steel hands reveals the precise Graham escapement – what an impressive spectacle of creative watchmaking artistry!

With a height of 164 cm and a base made of Nero Assoluto granite (diameter Ø 70 cm), the Columna Temporis marks spaces with its presence – without competing with the furnishings. The mechanism beneath the glass dome housing reveals a 30-day movement, driven by a 3,500 g tungsten weight and guided by ball-bearing rollers. The accuracy of the movement is ensured by an invar pendulum with temperature compensation, while five precision ball bearings and nine ruby bearings in screwed chatons ensure the ultra-quiet running for which the manufactory in Gräfling near Munich is world-renowned.

This is mechanics at the highest level: anyone who loves clockworks will love the craftsmanship that goes into them. And anyone who curates spaces will find in the Columna Temporis a statement that combines time and art in a breathtaking unity.
